Lowell lives in Carrabelle, Florida with his wife Bernice. They attend Carrabelle First Assembly of God, the outpost where Lowell has chartered since 1981. Lowell first became involved with Royal Rangers in 1963! He met and was impressed with National Commander Johnnie Barnes early in 1963. That was the year that Lowell’s pastor was so impressed with the new ministry, that he decided to charter his church, Floral Heights Assembly of God in Wichta Falls, TX. They chartered as Outpost 13 late in 1963.
Lowell was in the US Air Force and was soon transferred from Wichita Falls In 1972, Lowell and Bernice retired to Carrabelle, Florida – a beautiful town on the gulf coast. From 1972 to 1981, the church in Carrabelle was not chartered. In 1981, Lowell was finally able to charter with the national office and Outpost 63 has been chartered since.
Lowell has held many positions in Rangers over the years, including…
Outpost Council member, Outpost Lieutenant Commander, Pioneer Commander, and Senior Commander. Deputy Sectional Commander, Sectonal Commander, Straight Arrow/Buckaroo Coordinator, Ranger Kids Coordinator, and District Programs Coordinstor. Lowell is also a Training Chief and an Instructor Trainer, and is a member of the National Council.
Over the years, Lowell has taught many classes on the district level, at regional expo, and has served on staff at many national camps. He has earned 3 LMAs, has attended Staff School and National Academy. He has also staffed serveral RKTC Jamborees.
One of Lowell’s favorite pasttimes is the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship. His name is “Vee Bird,” and his totem is a Swallow Tailed Kite. He holds the rank of Wilderness, and is a member of the Trappers Brigrade, and is a Free Trapper.
Lowell’s FCF skill, leather craft, is one that is nationally recognized. Many of his bags, knife & hawk sheaths, and Bible covers are owned by Royal Ranger and Assembly of God national officials!. He also loves to collect patches.
Since 1982, Lowell has attended almost all of the District field days, pow wows, local FCF events, Regional Expos, National Camporamas, and Territoral Rendevous.
