District Commander Email – October 3, 2009
The past few months have brought some changes to the District Rangers. Some important new items that will benefit you are:
- We
have a new webmaster. Kent McGregor is a rookie to all this, but he is
working his way through it with the help of a very good tutor. Visit www.westflrangers.com
and take a look at some of the new stuff. Kent admits that he doesn’t
possess Randy Wilkins’ talent, but he is learning how to survive in the
website world. Good job, Kent. Keep it up!
- We
are now responsible for our own budget. I was recently required to
submit a budget proposal to the District AG for approval. This way, we
can plan for and keep track of how much we have and the cost of our
activities and supplies.
- As
you know, the District AG has given us the property in the back of the
campground for our use. We have made plans for the use of it, and have
even begun work on the Rudolph Brown lodge. If you can help, either
with the fund raising or the construction, please contact me.
- Coming
up later this month is the FCF Riflemen Territory Rendezvous. We are
looking forward to having a great time! Our guests will be the
National FCF President Paul Walters and Missionary Matt Kling. All
FCFers are urged to attend.
- Next
month is Pow Wow. This is going to be a great event. This year’s
theme is a military-style theme. Each person will receive two patches
(one is VERY memorable), a t-shirt, four meals, and a host of
activities! Plus, our special guest is Gunnery Sergeant Tim Purney,
USMC. YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS SERGEANT PURNEY! YOU WON’T EVER FORGET
HIM! For more information, go to the district website at www.westflrangers.com.
- I
have cleared my schedule and have begun traveling around to different
outposts on Wednesday nights. On September 23, I visited Wausau
Assembly of God. If you have never been to Wausau, then make plans to
go during the annual Possum Festival (I’m not kidding!) You can get
some of the best possum you have ever tasted. Plus, you can watch the
competition for the Possum King and Possum Queen. Anyway, Commanders
Donny Harris and Troy Landry are doing a fantastic job in that
outpost. The boys are excited about Rangers, and that is how I like to
see them! Keep it up, Donny and Troy!
- As
a side note, I have begun working with the inner city kids in
Pensacola, and have begun a Royal Rangers ministry there. My first
Urban Rangers meeting took place last Monday, and 27 kids showed up!
That is 27 souls that we can reach, teach and keep for Jesus Christ.
If you live near Pensacola and would like to help (or someone in your
church would like to help – boys and girls), just let me know. We will
meet every Monday night from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. It is different from
regular Ranger meetings, but very rewarding!
Blessings,
Mike
