Here we go again…Just as soon as we get through one disaster, another one comes along. Since Ivan, there have been Arlene, Dennis, and now Katrina. Even though Katrina did not strike our district directly, we have definitely felt the effect. Commanders Kevin Chilcutt, Kent McGregor, and I have been deeply involved in the relief efforts. This has obviously created even more delays and cancellations for our district Rangers. Several meetings and events have been cancelled due to the weather occurrences. As a matter of fact, the past two years have been very difficult for our district. True to form, however, Ranger leaders have come to the rescue. In addition to the efforts locally, I have received numerous reports of Ranger leaders who have responded to Mississippi and Louisiana to help with recovery efforts. Pen Florida Rangers have sent about 29 truckloads of supplies to Mississippi, and a bunch of Ranger leaders have made the trip there with chain saws, generators, etc. As for our district Rangers, you can help. My brother, Jim Simmons, attends Crestview First. He contacted me to let me know that he is planning to make several weekend-long trips to the devastated areas to help Assembly of God churches with rebuilding efforts. He would like for Ranger leaders and Rangers to respond and go with him. He said that you don’t need to have any special skills, just be willing to work. If you are interested, you can contact him at 850-682-2914. On Saturday, October 1, the District Ranger of the Year competition will be held at district headquarters in Marianna. The event will start at 9:00 AM. After the event ends, please join us for a District Staff meeting. Since we have not had a lot of meetings lately (weather related,) we need you there. Everyone’s ideas and opinions are welcome. If you have any questions, please contact me at 850-438-2611. Thanks. Mike
